Deputy Executive Director

The Deputy Director will be responsible for all of SAVE's political and policy focused work. This will include developing and managing the organization's political strategy, interfacing and keeping effective relationships with candidates and public officials, managing SAVE Action PAC's Endorsements, and overseeing SAVE's issue-focused lobbying work.

The Deputy Director is also responsible for enhancing the internal organization and infrastructure necessary for SAVE to continue its success and growth. The ideal applicant should be able to think broadly and strategically about SAVE's work and about the implementation and structures necessary to move SAVE's mission forward.

Responsibilities:

The Deputy Director will be expected to support the Executive Director in fundraising, advocacy and communications.

Political Lobbying/Endorsements and Community Liaison

  • Develop and supervise the implementation of a political lobbying plan to include elections, political campaigns, lobbying, legislative initiatives, field activities, and candidate endorsements
  • Establish and develop relationships with elected officials, their staffs, and other community leaders
  • Establish and develop strategic relationships with local, regional, and national LGBT&Q organizations
  • Work with local/regional government to further SAVE's mission of equality
  • Create and oversee a community liaison plan

Organizational Leadership

  • Work with Executive Director to develop and implement the strategic plan of the organization including fundraising, political lobbying/endorsement, communication and other mission-centered objectives
  • Work with staff and volunteer committees on the implementation of the plan
  • Maintain high degree of confidentiality in all matters, as well as the personal and professional acumen of a public figure
  • Supervise staff and consultants as determined by Executive Director
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently with Board Members and volunteers

Fundraising and Communications

  • Work with executive director to develop and implement fundraising strategies
  • Personally raise $20,000 in one-on-one solicitations from potential donors per year
  • Help steer and support various fundraising committees to support the implementation of fundraising plan and strategies
  • Help oversee staff to develop and implement effective communications and social media strategies

Reports to: Executive Director

Hours: Varies, may include nights and weekends.

Special Events & Membership Manager

Responsibilities:

The Special Events & Membership Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate all membership gifts ($1200 and above), and membership activities, as well as manage special events and assist the Executive Director generally in meeting fundraising targets.

Membership

  • Manage donor database, including maintenance of integrity of donor records by keeping information up-to-date
  • Provide stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants to maintain and/or renew continued funding
  • Develop and manage all donor programs and events (i.e. Guardian Cocktail events, Young Guardian Happy Hours, Donor Briefings)
  • Work with Marketing Manager to promote, simplify, and optimize online sign-up process for membership donors

Events

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential individual donors, corporate sponsors, and grantors
  • Manage SAVE's Champions of Equality, Luminaries of Equality and Halloween Ball Sponsorship programs, which includes helping identify, secure and process sponsorships (cash and in-kind)
  • Manage and maintain regular communications with host committees and volunteer event planning committees for fundraising events
  • Train and lead volunteers to staff events and other fundraising efforts
  • Assist in logistical planning and execution/tear-down of events

Fundraising

  • Help develop and implement fundraising plans that include membership drives, phone banks, major gifts, and events with volunteer committees
  • Develop, plan and implement strategies to secure gift and grant funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations in support of SAVE and the SAVE Foundation
  • Personally identify, raise, and secure $10,000 in one-on-one solicitations from potential donors each month
  • Help oversee that all fundraising sources garner a cumulative average of $45,000 each month
  • Staff, steer and support various fundraising committees to support the implementation of fundraising plan and strategies
  • Write funding/grant proposals

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are critical for this position
  • Must be passionate about SAVE's mission and have the ability to tell "our story" to current and potential stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around all written communications
  • Team-player who is willing to work across teams and pitch-in to ensure all colleagues succeed
  • Be able to plan and execute events from start to finish
  • Be a strategic thinker, quick on your feet, and multi-task to handle concurrent projects and fundraising initiatives
  • Able to network effectively
  • Must be flexible, self-directed, organized and goal-oriented. Special Events and Membership Manager should be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and handle pressure well

Communications & Marketing Intern

SAVE seeks a communications/marketing intern to assist the Communications & Marketing Manager. We are looking to hire an intern with some degree of expertise in ANY (but by no means all) of the following:

  • Graphic design
  • Web design
  • Politics
  • LGBT activism
  • Fundraising
  • Advertising
  • Event promotion
  • Progressive organizing
  • Social media
  • Online content creation
  • Blogging/newswriting

Responsibilities may range from graphic design, to social media administration, to media management, to email marketing and more.

Overall, the job of the intern will be to help the communications manager accomplish his objective of using the channels at SAVE’s disposal to deliver effective political communications, event promotions, fundraising requests, and volunteer appeals to the organization’s membership.

The specific day-to-day roles of the intern will be determined by his or her initial skill level and comfort, BUT we are seeking someone who is willing to try to learn unfamiliar skills and is interested in developing the whole package professionally as a nonprofit/political communications specialist.

Upon completion of this internship, interns may be offered part-time or full-time employment contingent upon the needs of the organization, the strength of the organization’s fundraising in the months prior, and of course, the intern’s performance in his or her role.

Reports to: Communications & Marketing Manager

Hours: Flexible & negotiable -- we will work with interns to develop a schedule that is as accommodating as possible but which is also beneficial to the organization's needs. May include working from home or telecommuting. We are looking for an initial commitment of 10-15 hours per week. College credit is available for those enrolled at participating institutions.
