#12x12: Take Action and Help Organize 12,000 Pro-Equality Supporters in Our Community

Last month we held our first voter engagement training with 40 volunteers and we are already on our way to organizing 12,000 pro-equality supporters before 2012. Our next training will take place October 15, and we need more support so we can commit our friends and family to supporting pro-equality candidates and policies. If you are outraged by Florida's new voter laws that limit the ability of our community to get registered to vote and are ready to take action, please register today to attend this important, high-impact training.

CJ Ortuno and Rodrigo Lehtinen Conduct Training at TransCon to Pass Trans-Inclusive HRO

More than 50 participants attended TransCon 2011 and listened to presentations from groups that included the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Lambda Legal. This year’s conference focused on social justice issues affecting Florida’s transgender community. Mayor Carlos Gimenez Thanks SAVE Dade for "Critical" Endorsement Building political power is essential to our work. As Miami-Dade County’s only local non-partisan LGBT advocacy organization, it is essential that we have an open and healthy relationship with our county’s elected officials, starting with our Mayor. We recognized this back in June when then-Commissioner Carlos Gimenez jumped in the race for County Mayor. As a result, we made a significant investment to help elect him to office, and with your support, we defended the Mayor’s office for the third consecutive time.

Mayor Gimenez joined us and about 120 Guardians (our major donors) and guests to thank us for our support. His words were powerful and gave many in the audience reassurance that he is a fair-minded and pro-equality Mayor. The Mayor is committed to the community and will need our support next year as he runs for a full four-year term. Watch and listen to SAVE Dade Chair Joe Falk, CJ Ortuno, and Mayor Gimenez talk about our work.

Brian McNaught: "B" is for Bisexuality, but What and Who are They?
If someone asks you to explain bisexuality, simply say, “Bisexuals are people who have the potential to be physically intimate with both sexes.” This probably takes in the majority of the population, but bisexuals aren’t doing a very good job of putting a face on the issue, and telling us how their issues are different from those of gay men and lesbians. We need a Bisexual Liberation Movement, or at least an educational DVD.
