#12x12:  Take Action and Help Organize 12,000 Pro-Equality Supporters in Our Community

If you were not sure about the effect of Florida's new voter laws, please consider this:  This month, a public school teacher was fined $1,000 by the State of Florida after she attempted to register her students to vote.  United States Senator Bill Nelson spoke to the Washington Independent, calling these laws, "an assault on our most basic rights."

The time for action is now.  We are already on our way to organizing 12,000 pro-equality supporters before 2012, but we need your help so we can make sure our friends, family, and community members are registered to vote.

Sign up today to join us at our November 19th Voter Engagement Training and help us fight back against Florida's egregious voter laws!

100% of SAVE Dade Action PAC Endorsed Candidates Win Election!

100% Success
Our community had a successful election day with 100% of our candidates being elected to local office. Two candidates in Miami Beach and one in Miami received the support of the SAVE Dade Action PAC and were elected to serve their respective communities. SAVE Dade’s endorsement was sought after by each of these campaigns and we delivered money, volunteers, and voters.

It is noteworthy to think that just 25 years ago our endorsement in these cities would have been politically risky and the LGBT community’s support was shunned and rejected. Today, as a result of our work together, cities like Miami and Miami Beach acknowledge and embrace our community’s values. They represent our interests in city hall as part of the great American mosaic – whether in politics or society – supporting equality is the right thing to do. We still have work to do in many of the other cities in Miami-Dade County, but today let’s recognize progress and its value to our work.

David Valk featured on ImFromDriftwood.com

SAVE Dade Field Officer, David Valk, was featured today in a video by ImFromDriftwood.com on the Huffington Post, on the three-year anniversary of California's Proposition 8 -- and Florida's Amendment 2 -- being passed into law. Both constitutional amendments banned gay and lesbian couples from marrying, and were the spark for thousands of young people, including Valk, to become engaged in the equality movement.

Hellrotika was a Huge Success!

Hellrotika 2011

“My expectations were exceeded and I had an even better time this year than last…when SAVE Dade does something, they do it right. I can not wait until next year.”

- 2011 Hellrotika guest

Hellrotika was a huge success! And many of you have shared your memories with us and the accolades keep on coming. Even though 99% of our work is very serious, once a year we let our hair down in this fun and wild party we call Hellrotika. The event is a way to engage the community in a more lighthearted way, while still raising the necessary funds for our mission critical work.

This event is not possible without the many hours of planning and execution that takes place behind the scenes from our staff and volunteer committee. I’d like to take this moment to thank them – THANK YOU - Freddy Rodrigues, Jorge Sanchez, Tony Lima, Rashid Saker, Bryant Sampson, Lee Bockus, Camilo Gomez, Tati M, Chyin Ng, Felix Counts, Federico Teran, Cindy Brown, and Ines Molleda for making this all possible. Your commitment and dedication is inspiring.

Op-Ed: Do I Matter To You?  The Politics of Taking it Personally...

by Joe Bolduc
What I write here may change the way you think about me.

You will know I posted it.

I will know you read it.

As you scroll down the page, as the words cascade out, as the meaning becomes clear to you, the nature of our relationship to each other might shift.

And it may never be the same.

On September 18, 2011, Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14 year old teenager took his life because he had been relentlessly bullied and shamed and ostracized for being gay.
