InterFaithOUT
InterFaithOUT Committee
InterFaithOUT Committee, or IFO, is a group of free thinking indviduals of various religious and non-religious persuasions, whose focus is to promote open dialogue among local religious civic leaders and the LGBTQ community. Our mission is to promote and explore the issues of spirituality and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trasngender (LGBT) identity.
The IFO film series focuses on the journey for visibility and acceptance of LGBT individuals within religious communities throughout the world. Through soul-searching stories of deep conviction, people of all faiths can understand the struggles of LGBT peoples.
We seek to encourage greater acceptance of our own and each other's freedoms, LGBTQ or not, religious or not. And we seek to encourage religious leaders towards greater acceptance of everyone in their community.
On January 8th, SAVE-InterFaithOUT, together with the Wolfsonian Museum FIU on Miami Beach were the proud presenters of the powerful film "In Anita's Wake." The screening was also sponsored by the Herrschaft Lecture and Cultural Fund of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Miami, the ACLU, DAYENU, Temple Beth Am's GLBT awareness group, MIAMI Jews, a young people's Jewish social group in downtown Miami, the Program in the Study of Sprituality at FIU, and the News Café.
On February 1st at 12:30pm, we will once again be co-presenters of "In Anita's Wake" along with a large group of organizations that stand on the side of freedom and compassion, including the ACLU and SAVE Dade. This screening will take place at

February 12th, 3pm - Silence is Death (Unheard Voices) (USA, 2010, Chay Johnson, 45 min)—Johnson shines the light uponthe issues of gay Black men and the problems that lead to the highestrates of HIV infection of all social groups. The film scrutinizes the roleplayed by Black churches in stifling the discussion of AIDS by refusingto acknowledge the sexuality of some of its people.
March 11th, 3pm - City of Borders (U.S. 2009, Yun Suh, 66 minutes)—In the heart of Jerusalem stands an unusual symbolof unity that defies generations of segregation, violence and prejudice:a gay bar called Shushan. City of Borders goes inside the vibrantcommunity at the only gay bar in Jerusalem where people of opposingnationalities, religions and sexual orientations create a sanctuary amongpeople typically viewed as each other’s “enemy.” The documentaryintimately portrays the daily lives of the Israeli bar owner and fourIsraeli and Palestinian patrons as they navigate the minefield of politics, religion and discrimination to live and love openly. Set against theconstruction of the separation wall between Israel and the Palestinianterritories and the struggle for a gay pride parade in Jerusalem, thesefive inter-woven stories reveal the contradictions and complexities in thestruggle for acceptance.
